Affogato – Love and lemons recipe

An affogato is an Italian dessert based on two simple ingredients: hot espresso and cold gelato. It is the perfect and delicious treat for a hot day!
Let’s make an affogato! This classic Italian dessert is a delicious marriage of two simple ingredients: espresso and gelato or ice cream.
You barely need a recipe to make one (it’s as simple as pouring hot espresso on cold ice cream). But because I think that a affogato is the best way to enjoy the coffee on a hot day, I could not resist sharing this simple offogato recipe – my favorite ratios and variations included. I hope you take it as an invitation to enjoy this delicious Italian treat for the rest of the summer, no trip to Italy requires!
What is an Affogato?
First of all, a little background! The word drowned means “drowned” in Italian, which is a name suitable for this dessert. After all, to make a poster, you mainly drown ice cream in coffee!
The key to note on an affogato is that the espresso must be hot and that the ice must be cold. Coffee melts the cream with creamy foam, creating a delicious interaction of temperatures and textures.
Although I consider an Affogato dessert, I have also seen it on many coffee menus in cafes in Italy. Do not hesitate to take advantage of it every time as a desire for a strike!
How to make a post
This offogato recipe begins with two simple ingredients:
- Espresso – Brew it using an espresso machine or a cook mocha jar. If you do not have an espresso manufacturer, you can just use a strong brewed coffee.
- Ice or gelato – Milk cream Gelato, which is mainly half of the milk, is the traditional choice in Italy. At home, my go-to is vanilla. Any vanilla or ice gelato bought in good quality stores will be great here, but this homemade ice cream takes on a possession at another level.
The report of the espresso / ice cream you use depends on you. I always use 1 espresso plan and 1 or 2 ice cream balls depending on whether I am in mood for a softer or more coffee treat.
Make a poster, Place the ice in a bowl or a glass of service. Pour the hot espresso or the strong coffee brewed on top and serve immediately!

How to serve a poster
Make sure you serve a poster right away. The combination of hot and cold ingredients is a large part of what makes such a delicious, so digging while the ice cream is still somewhat firm and the espresso still has heat.
Small bowls or service glasses are the best for this recipe so that the mixture is pissing at the bottom. You will probably start by eating with a spoon, then go drinking halfway.
Take things up by combining your possession with biscotti. A crunchy cookie is the perfect partner for this creamy dessert of coffee!
Variations
- Use a different ice cream flavor. The sky is the limit! So many flavors would be excellent here. Try chocolate ice cream, coffee ice cream, caramel, cherry or hazelnut.
- Add a liqueur. Make a wet affogato by watering in a tablespoon of Amaretto. If you like Martinis of Expresso and you have Kahlúa at hand, it would be good here too.
- Dress it. I love a cocoa powder sprinkling or a pinch of chocolate shavings on top.
- Do it decafa. If you want to enjoy a poster after dinner but you do not want to load caffeine, do not hesitate to use espresso or decafferated coffee in this recipe.
