Address the Arctic shipping crisis at COP30 | Science

Following human activities, the Arctic Summer Ice Ice can disappear by 2030 (1). As the shipping window in the Arctic shipping lanes has extended, the number and frequency of ships trying to cross the region have increased (2). The ships in the Arctic Liberation Black Carbon, which accelerate the fusion of ice, and the reduction of sea ice allows more ships to enter the Arctic for shipping activities (3). To mitigate the damage, participants of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in November (COP30) should engage in a legal arctic shipping agreement.
