Nalyssa Smith upset after she is exchanged with wings and girlfriend Dijonai Carrington

A soft-amer trade has just forced a WNBA couple to go long.

Dallas Wings striker Nalyssa Smith was exchanged at the AS of Las Vegas on Monday, June 30 in a business that seemed to leave the left field for Smith and the fans.

After the announcement of the news, Smith, 24, announced to X that she was “sick in the stomach” in reaction to the profession which sees her leave the team where she played alongside her girlfriend, goalkeeper Dijonai Carrington.

Although Smith, who was raised in San Antonio, Texas, and Carrington, 27, were both acquired by the Wings during the 2025 off -season – shortly before the team wrote the NCAA champion in 2025 with Uconn, Paige Bueckers – their visit to Dallas was not their first time to the same team.

The duo played a season together for the Bears of Baylor University during the 2020-2021 season, where they reached the Eight Eight of the NCAA tournament.

In response to the trade, Carrington – whose Father Darren was a successful football player, making two appearances of the Super Bowl – simply published an emoji with a broken heart on X.

Despite the four corners now between Smith and his girlfriend, the positive points of trade were not lost to add the new AS.

After his first post on X, Smith then posted: “On another note, if I had been able to choose anywhere to go, it would have been vegas” referring to the aces, who won the back to back championships in 2022 and 2023. The post continued, “So Hella excited 4 this new opportunity with my goat. 🙂↔️🤝🏾.”

Presumably, the Smith “goat” is delighted to join Sin City is A’ja Wilson, who was one of the two ACES championship teams and was appointed MVP of the WNBA in 2020, 2022 and 2024.

The 7th place Aces can use Smith to find the stability of their record after losing Wilson, 28 years old, for a sequence of three defeats due to a concussion protocol. Wilson’s injury occurred at a particularly unstable moment for AS with other players on pregnancy leave and dealing with injuries.

Meanwhile, the Wings, which are currently in 12th place, receive a first -round choice in 2027 for Smith.

Smith will face Carrington and his former team on July 16 when the Aces cross the desert for a match against the Wings in Dallas, for their last match before the All Star break.
