Liverpool have been backed to improve their squad when the transfer window reopens in January.
They were very active during the summer transfer window and recruited several players. However, they have had a poor start to the season and are currently third in the table. They are hoping to defend their Premier League crown and need to improve their squad. They need to tighten at the back.
Liverpool need defenders
Liverpool have been pretty poor defensively and are set to lose Ibrahima Konate at the end of the season. He will be a free agent and he has not yet signed an extension with the club. Liverpool must find a suitable alternative for him.
They were expected to sign Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window, but this decision did not come to fruition. It will be interesting to see if they decide to return for the Crystal Palace star in January.
Liverpool considering January moves
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness said on Football Insider: “I expect to see some serious moves in January from Liverpool, and they’re going to spend where they probably didn’t plan to because there are cracks showing. They’re going to have to strengthen that defence.”
After the kind of window they had this summer, very few people would have expected Liverpool to lose four games in a row. They bounced back with a midweek win over Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League, and it will be interesting to see if they can make a run at marriage now.
There is no doubt that there are weaknesses in the side and Liverpool need to address them. Besides our quality central defender, they should also consider investing in a winger and a defensive midfielder.
