A preview of the match: Kansas City Current closes the first half of the regular season by welcoming Angel City FC
Kansas City (June 19, 2025) – By aiming to extend its sequence of victories to six, the Kansas City Current (10-2-0, 30 pts., 1st place) returns to the CPKC stadium to close the first half of the regular season of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) on Friday, June 20. The club will honor during the match.
The action will be broadcast on Prime Video with Jason Knapp and Lori Lindsey on the call while Tabitha Turner will serve as a touch journalist. Jillian Carroll Letrinko and Dave Borchardt call the game on 90.9 The Bridge, and fans can also connect to hear the match in English, Spanish or Portuguese on the current KC application.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Kansas City has played 25 games all competitions all competitions (regular season, NWSL X Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, The Women’s Cup, Séries Éventoires) at CPKC Stadium – The world’s first stadium for female professional sports – since its opening on March 16, 2024. Kansas City remains the only NWSL team without loss or zero at home this year.

Kansas City scored 28 goals in 12 games in 2025. The current scored first in 14 of its last 15 regular season competitions since October 5, 2024 and is 10-1-0 during the conversion for the first time this year. The team led 69.9% of the time in their matches this season, totaling 850 minutes and 44 seconds. In addition, the current led by several goals of 45.1% of the time, an operating period of 548 minutes and 35 seconds. The club found the back of the net in 11 of its 12 games, more than any other NWSL team this season. Since the start of the 2024 season, the current has won 18 regular season wins of two or more goals, five more than any other team at that time (Washington, 13). Temwa Chawinga striker, MVP NWSL 2024 and Golden Boot winner, is second in the Golden Boot 2025 NWSL ranking through 12 weeks of regular season. She is one of the two players who scored eight goals this year, and she leads the break in equality with her two assists. Before week 13, Chawinga scored 32 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, 13 of these goals being the winners. His four winning goals this year are leading the league. She is also two goals to become the 15th player in NWSL history to reach 30 goals in the regular season, and she will be the first to do for the current.
Chawinga found the back of the net in five consecutive games, his third separate sequence of five or more games in his regular season career. She is the first player in the history of the NWSL to record three separate score sequences in five regular or more consecutive seasonal games. Only six players in the history of the league have reached a sequence of six in a row, including Chawinga twice. She has the NWSL record for marked regular seasonal appearances with eight, a sequence that she made twice.

Defender Hailie Mace is currently ranking second in NWSL with his four assists at the top of the team. This has marked the third honor of his career and the first since September / October 2022.

Several current Kansas City players will be in action at the next international window. After Friday’s match, Kansas City Current will give up regular seasonal action during the one -month NWSL break. However, the club will host the first Rising Toal Rising Cup presented by Visit Missouri at the CPKC Stadium on July 12 and 15 with doublesheads the two games.
