A new series of HBO crimes has Stephen King approval cachet

HBO has long been a destination for a large television. In many ways, the wired network has helped inaugurate the golden age of television with “The Sopranos”. Even in the very crowded landscape dominated by today’s streaming, this is greatly true. Example: the last series of network crimes, “Task”, was not only acclaimed, but it even attracted the attention of the prolific writer Stephen King.

King is one of the most famous authors to do so, writing everything from “IT” to “Dome”. His works have also inspired dozens of films and television adaptations over the years, with “The Life of Chuck” and “The Long Walk” arriving on the big screen this year. King himself is also a big fan of films and television, frequently emphasizing what he watched on social networks. By taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), King shared his brief review of “Task”, which is from the creator “Mare of Easttown” Brad Ingelsby. Here is what King had to say about this:

“Task (HBO): It is a story of crime; it is a suspense of nail. You will care about legislators (led by Mark Ruffalo) and criminals. Above all, you will care about the kidnapped little boy.”

The series takes place in the suburbs of the working class of Philadelphia and focuses on the FBI agent Tom Brandi (Mark Ruffalo), who runs a working group to end a series of violent flights led by a familyless father, Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey). The show also features “House of the Dragon” Alun Fabien Frankel, as well as the actor of “Coda” Emilia Jones.

The task is a different type of cops and thieves.

To date, we are only a few episodes in season 1 of the “task”, but the criticisms have been largely very impressed by what Inglesby prepared, agree with King’s assessment. The issue currently has a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Again, it might not be too surprising, given the long history of HBO to produce great criminal dramas. All the same, for those who love the genre, it could be worth putting your radar, if it is not already there.

Ruffalo, who is best known for his work under the name of Hulk in the Marvel cinematic universe, carries a very different hat in this series. He has already played a cop in films like “Zodiac”, but as he explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the goal of this program is not the traditional delimitation of good against the bad guys. It is a story of cops and thieves, but that seeks to shed different light on thieves. Here’s how Ruffalo defined everything:

“I have a dear friend who is an ex-pump, and he is in fact in the series, and we were talking about the material of the show and he said to me:` `Mark, there is no excuse, but there is always a reason ‘- which has become the ethics of everything for me, that has never left me. Compassionate and empathetic taken of cops and thieves.”

“Task” presents new episodes on Sunday evening on HBO and HBO Max.
