Marvel has contracted a ton of actors to fill its massive cinematographic universe, and this continuous number of growing regularly, but occasional fans may not realize that there have been artists who have a double duty under the aegis of Marvel. Usually, this extends more to the cosmic side of the universe than the “Street level” section of the procedure, because it is easier to hide the fact that a famous face plays a new character with prostheses, makeup and CGI. An example of this trend is Djimon Hounsou, which appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and then played other versions of the bad Korath pursuing it in different projects. But the favorite actor of the fans actually played Black Panther in a very unique way for Marvel, and the viewers may have missed the first time.
Hounsou expressed the Marvel hero in a television series “Black Panther” with six episodes that the company published in 2010 as part of the Marvel Knights animation imprint, which means that the show rests comfortably outside the continuity of the MCU. (This comes with a sigh of relief from certain readers who may be worried about having missed something inside the sprawling myth that Marvel is ready to continue adding to the supposed thermal death of the universe or otherwise!) Bet produced the television series “Black Panther”, and the effort represented their first animated television project from “Hey Monie!” In 2003, it was a new territory for all those involved.
It is important to note that “Black Panther” exists as something called a “movement comics” as opposed to other animated Marvel efforts like “X-Men: The Animated Series” or something like that, and that could have been a lot of first introduction to fans in the decade. Each episode of “Black Panther” lasts 20 minutes, and there are only six episodes available, but it is a fun and quick race for the current Black Panther myth that has fun stuff for longtime Marvel fans. Djimon Hounsou is not the only one in “Black Panther” either, because Kerry Washington, Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, and the more there are in the casting of the voice. The fact that more people don’t talk about this little show is really surprising.
Djimon Hounsou expressed Black Panther in a mainly forgotten Marvel series
James Gunn composed Djimon Hounsou to play the version of Korath’s MCU continuing it in “Guardians of the Galaxy”, which makes sense when the Kree is presented in this film as a major actor on the cosmic side of the Marvel universe during this film. In a fun moment for longtime fans, Hounsou takes up the role of Korath in “Captain Marvel” as a member of Starforce. With Yon-Rogg, Captain Marvel and their team, the strike team was responsible for fighting Skrulls in the current war between the Kree and the Skrulls. Throughout the film, the character of Hounsou conflicts with Captain Marvel and is defeated.
“Black Panther” is a different ball game because Hounsou was the number one on the call sheet, and the first person to play the massively popular Marvel hero on television, who will make a big “Jeopardy!” Question one day! (Bonus points for all those who ask the question of the anecdotes of Kerry Washington playing Shuri in “Black Panther” properly during your Local Trivia Geek evening.) It’s just funny to see an actor who recorded the kind of career that Hounsou had this chance, then watch Wakanda Fever to secure the United States, then the world, six years later. In fact, he would have had the chance to play Black Panther in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” if some things had broken differently, and it is a wild concept to treat.
However, people who really want to see “Black Panther” can broadcast the animated series on Bet’s YouTube channel, and it becomes a rarity these days as more and more things lock in a given streaming service. The “Black Panther” series is a beautiful shorthand for viewers who may not want to sit through the film live, although we strongly recommend that, because Chadwick Boseman is really the face of this character in any major ways.

Several black creators have tried to bring Black Panther to the big screen before the time of the Ryan coogler watershed with T’Challa in 2018, and are not mistaken, this phenomenon has still not been equaled to date. But, one thing that probably hindered a large part of the momentum to bring Wakanda to the cinema was probably the awareness of the importance of the hero, although and the interference of the former Bigwig Marvel Ike Perlmutter, whose obsession with what he thought would be sold as a toy product helped dictate far too much from the management of the Marvel Studios at the start of the franchise.
Once people have become aware of T’Challa’s cool as a character, and let’s be real, Boseman’s fantastic performances in this MCU characteristic, the sky was the limit of the Wakanda characters and their increasingly popular corner of Marvel films. However, seeing proof of concept can help grease skates to make all this a reality, and there is no doubt that the performance and vocal series of Hounsou have helped to further open the way to a greater presence at the bottom of the line. The change does not occur at almost the pace that we would all like sometimes, and people need to see what is possible before going there a reality in most cases. After all, sometimes a familiar face or voice makes all the difference when you are on the fence.
