A lifeless black comedy commits the ultimate sin of making the murder boring

Long -term secrets of the past resurface in Alex Winter In adulthood, A black comedy of suburb which literally takes the concept of skeletons in the closet with very mixed results. When Meg (Kaya Scodelario) and Noah (Josh Gad) return to their childhood home to take care of their mother, they find more than they are negotiated in the form of a body in decomposition hidden in the walls of the basement.
They identify the corpse as that of their missing neighbor Patty, who disappeared when they were children in the early 90s. The city blamed her husband and the family dispersed. Meg and Noah reflect on all of this in one of the strangely sweet moments of the film when In adulthood is still going up. But while the film tries to hit his stride, he becomes a tone mess in all directions.
Adulthood cannot completely hit the good tone
Instead of alerting the police and potentially incriminating their sick mother, Noah and Meg decide to hide the body itself, leading to a blackmail and murder game that is simply confusing. While the bodies accumulate and the situation becomes more and more untenable, In adulthoodThe characters make increasingly confusing decisions that are underlined by the fact that Gad and Scodelario feel like they are in two entirely different films.
The two are great performers, but Scodelario plays the right equipment and, against the comic relief of Gad, there is an awkward tension between their performances which never evolves entirely. This does not help that Noah and Meg are not even completely credible as brothers and sisters. There is no deeper connection felt after their initial meeting, and persistent resentments over the years are mentioned, then underestimated in favor of the plot.
In adulthood Could have been much more effective if she persisted on the emotional impact of the situation. It looks like the film wants to do it, but the winter script often insists to add lightness that only confuses the tone and never ends completely. The funniest person in the film is Barry Breakout Anthony Corrigan as a summary cousin of Meg and Noah. He is brought to help scare the singer of Billie Heavy, and a late scene from the film featuring swords, a crossbow and two Katanas is a highlight.
These sets do not do much to wear the film, however, and In adulthood Finally, seems to be lost in the middle of two opposite forces, striving with comedy even if it remains anchored in its construction of a black suburb. It ends up making a film that is not so funny or emotional.
In adulthood strives to strike a certain manic energy adapted to the climbing of the film, but she never reaches a complete delirium which would be suitable for her bizarre premise, even in her best moments. Instead, the pace of In adulthood is rather Staid, even if Noah and Meg find themselves in more and more deep problems with each badly informed decision. As the film deactivates the automatic driver, it is far too late, and the end lands with the deaf noise of a long stringed body wrapped in an old carpet.
