Lister -in -law epidemic linked to chicken dishes in Kroger and Walmart | US News

An epidemic of Listeria food poisoning that killed three people and led to loss of pregnancy is linked to Alfredo products with heat and eating heat and the recently sold in Kroger and Walmart stores, Federal Health officials said on Tuesday.
The epidemic, which includes at least 17 people in 13 states, started last July, said officials. At least 16 people were hospitalized.
Freshrealm, a large food producer with sites in California, Georgia and Indiana, recalls products made before June 17. The recall includes these products, which have been sold in the refrigerated sections of retail stores:
-
12.3 Oz grilled chicken trays in Alfredo markets with tender fettuccines with creamy alfredo sauce, white meat chicken, broccoli and shaved parmesan with the highest dates of June 26 or earlier.
-
12.5 oz Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo houses with pasta, grilled white meat chicken and parmesan, with dates the most June or earlier.
The tension of Listeria bacteria that made sick people was found in a Fettuccine Alfredo chicken sample during a routine inspection in March, officials of the American agriculture department said. This product was destroyed and never sent to stores.
Officials said they had not identified the specific source of contamination. Cases have been identified through Retail Shopper Records and interviews with sick people.
The Listeria strain linked to the epidemic has been detected in sick people between July 24 and May 10, the American centers of disease control and prevention (CDC) reported. The deaths were in Illinois, Michigan and Texas. Cases have been reported in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.
The number of sick people is probably higher than now known and the cases can be detected in additional states. Officials continue to receive relationships of disease -related diseases and “fear that contamination will still occur,” said the CDC.
Consumers should not eat the products, which can be in their refrigerators or freezers. They must be thrown or returned to the place of purchase.
Listeria infections can cause serious illness, especially in the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and those who are pregnant or their newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.
About 1,600 people fall sick each year from Listeria infections and about 260 Maient, said the CDC. Federal officials in December declared that they reorganized protocols to prevent Listeria infections after several high -level epidemics, including a Boar charcuterie meat which resulted in 10 deaths and more than 60 diseases last year.
