Robertson wishes to win back the departure place in Liverpool after a bad start of the Kerkez replacement

Andrew Robertson clearly indicated that he will not give up his place as a left -handed from Liverpool, even after admitting that there was a chance that he could have joined Atletico Madrid in summer.
The 31 -year -old man, who has been in Anfield since 2017, has lost his starting role this season against Milos Kerkez, 20, a signature of 40 million pounds sterling considered as the long -term option of the club on the left side of La Défense.
Although Robertson was linked to a move to Atletico – who happens to be the first opponents of Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday – he chose to stay for the last year of his contract, aware that his opportunities could now come from the bench.
This was the case in Burnley on Saturday, where Robertson entered the match in the 38th minute to replace Kerkez, who had already been reserved.
His introduction helped stabilize the side of Arne Slot when they held a 1-0 victory to maintain their perfect start for the Premier League season.
By reflecting on speculation, the Scottish captain said: “Perhaps at some point. I want to play games and be the starting left back and I have to continue to push to try to produce the levels I know I can do.
“The international break was good for me because I was able to get two 90 minutes, get this fitness match and two very good results for Scotland and I gained a lot of confidence.
“He [Kerkez] is only young and I think we forget that. You try to help them as much as you can, but you want to put pressure on them and you want to play games.
“He will be the left back leaving to Liverpool in the future and it’s up to me to push him this season and help him improve.
“He just needs to continue working hard and not let it affect it today, which will not do it because he is a confident boy, and I will help him as much as possible.”
Kerkez’s situation reflects Robertson’s own experience when he arrived in Liverpool from Hull City in 2017. At the time, he had to wait until December to become a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp.
Robertson recognized the similarities: “It is a massive jump. I came from Hull, he comes from Bournemouth and it is probably quite similar.
“There are many more eyes on you in a Liverpool jersey than in these two clubs. He did the transition.
“There is a lot of information and a lot of ways to play and he just needs to continue and keep his confidence.
“I have no doubt in the future, it will be a fantastic left back to Liverpool and that’s the essential.”
