A favorite black Mirror episode of fans has two youtube game cameras

There is a lot to love in “USS Callister: Into Infinity”, the first official episode of the anthology program “Black Mirror”. The episode, which takes place largely in a virtual reality video game, presents main characters which are digital clones trapped inside. When they are killed in the game, they die for real. Contributing to this problem is that “Infinity” is an online multiplayer game, which means that the gang constantly meets real players who do not understand that the issues are real for them.

For most viewers, the “real” players feel like a funny satire of the real game community. Most players are young, a bit rude and still live with their parents. (Not that there is something bad with this last part, even if we want Jonathan to be more pleasant towards his mother.) But for viewers who also watch play banks during their free time, two of these players on the show made a funny surprise. During the final act, when the crew is attacked by a swarm of angry players, two of them are played by real popular streamers.
One of them is Daniel Middleton, alias Dantdm, best known for his comments on games like “Minecraft” and “Roblox”. The other is Thomas Simons, alias Tommyinit, also well known for his “minecraft” flows. The two are British banners, so it is logical that the “Black Mirror”, mainly British, would bring them on some of the other popular banners.

What is particularly fun about their cameos is that the episode shows the games of their characters at the bottom of the screen, clearly indicating that Tommyinnit and Dantdm do not only play fictional characters; They play themselves. The two banners (and probably all their disciples) exist canonically in the universe “Black Mirror”, or at the very least the universe “USS Callister”.
What Dantdm and Tommyinit said about their cameras
Tommyinnit has published a screenshot of his cameo on X (formerly known as Twitter), to the excited surprise of his many fans, writing: “I am now canonically in the universe” Black Mirror “.
He also published a video of himself by watching the video on Tiktok, with the legend “did not obtain” the film Minecraft “but molded canonically in” Black Mirror “.” You could see him celebrate when his character appeared, then laughing while the spaceship of his character exploded. (Tommyinnit obtains about half a second in the episode to show his actor chops during his “death” scene, and he takes advantage of it.)

His Instagram post has shown a whole bunch of photos behind the scenes of him, including a catch alongside Tommyinnit.
All the other characters of players in the episode have been played by real actors, but these two cameras of real players have greatly contributed to clarifying the point of view of the episode. They helped to point out that the episode was not interested in making fun of the players, despite the terrible creator of game Robert Daly. As Charlie Brooker explained in a recent interview, “players are not aware of the stakes for real characters. … I think they would be absolutely mortified if they thought they were hurting or killed real people. Brooker added:” I trust people who play much more to games than people who watch sport. “
