A chicago policeman was shot down just before 10 p.m. on the south side of the city, according to several police sources familiar with the issue.
The shooting occurred near Bloc 8200 on South Drexel avenue in the city’s East Chatham district.
The officer was transported by other officers in a squad car at the hospital at the University of Chicago in critical condition, several sources said.
According to Chicago police, authorities are expected to offer an update near the hospital at the University of Chicago.
