For Bella Ramsey, real pressure came with the main role of the second season of “The Last of Us”. But it was not entirely mental. The difficulty came to play almost all scene without the solidarity of the co-star Pedro Pascal, whose character Joel was brutally killed in episode 2.

Season 2 saw Ramsey embody Ellie, a young obstinate woman living in a postapocalyptic reality, in a more mature way. Slipping into his skin for the second time was “very familiar”. Ramsey addressed new skills, including in -depth training of waterfalls and some guitar lessons, but generally they relied on their instinct to find Ellie’s emotional state. “The way she thinks, moves and speaks and acts and behaves is almost a second nature because of the time I have lived in it,” explains Ramsey. “She feels very easily accessible to me.”
Ellie’s emerging relationship with Dina (Isabela Merced) was essential to understand the evolution of the character. While the newly created couple goes from Jackson, Wyo., In Seattle in search of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) after the murder of Joel, the impulse of the protector of Ellie becomes more pronounced, in particular after learning Dina pregnant. “I say that with all the love for Ellie, but she is quite selfish,” says Ramsey. “But then she has these moments of:” Wait, it’s no longer me. ” She is forced to leave her selfishness inherent in love.

Pascal and Dever took short periods during production in Canada last year. Ramsey says they were “less denied” on Pascal’s release than “because I had felt the effects of his non-being there”. Pulling on the scene where Ellie between just like Abby Impale Joel with a broken golf club was a pivotal experience.
“I was really trying to get a lot of energy in me before this scene to be able to do it,” explains Ramsey. “I was dancing and I had their pace.
Less horrible was episode 6, a flashback on Ellie and Joel’s relationship before his death. Ramsey describes filming with director Neil Druckmann, who also created video games, like “Joyful”. Several scenes are a remake shot from “The Last of Us Part II”, including Joel Bring Ellie in a Museum of Espace Envahi. But Ramsey never tries to imitate the version of the character’s game, even during the reproduction of such an emblematic scene.
“I was just living through my understanding of Ellie,” they say. “I looked at the gameplay, and what tends to arrive with me is that if I look at someone to exist as Ellie exists in the game, I accidentally adopt these ways. But it is not something that I do consciously. I only know that in me.”
Although Ramsey had prepared himself with the waterfall team in London before filming, the physicity of the shooting was intense. They note that “every two days were a day of waterfall”, which was incredibly trying. Ramsey was allowed to make all their own stunts, including the combat scene in episode 1 and the work of water in episode 7.

This year marks the second time of Ramsey for the main actress in a drama for “The Last of Us”, making it the first non -binary actor to be nominated for an Emmy more than once. It is rewarding for Ramsey, who never imagined that they would be in a position of influence.
“It’s nice to be seen,” says Ramsey. “I have the impression that this is what people like me have sought: to be seen for whom they are. This is a charming thing to make it happen on a large scale, and I hope it will help other people who do not conform to the genre to feel also seen.
