The Hellraiser video game is inspired by the most underestimated film in the franchise

The “Hellraiser” franchise by Clive Barker may not be as popular as “Friday 13”, “Halloween”, “Evil Dead” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, but most people always know Pinhead and the Cenobites. The extra-dimensional demons dressed in leather made their debut in the new “The Hellbound Heart” by Barker before provoking legendary suffering in the films, comics and musical clips of Motorhead, but they have not yet played in their own video game (unless you count the fictitious in the “Hellraiser: Hellworld”). However, it is about to change with Saber Interactive and “Hellraiser: Revival” by Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games, who will take players directly into the labyrinth. (Discover the knotted trailer here.)
“Hellraiser: Revival” tells the story of Aiden, a man who enters the Hlow of Cenobites to save his girlfriend from Damnation. The intrigue echoes the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, as well as the underestimated video game “Dante de Dante”, but are not mistaken: it is a story “Hellraiser”. Doug Bradley should resume the role of Pinhead, and Clive Barker assured fans that “Hellraiser: Revival” has such sites to show us (via Polygon):
“”[The creators have] Interpreted in the “Hellraiser” universe, capturing its essence – the attractive attraction of suffering, beauty in the grotesque – and forged a story that invites players to exceed the threshold. I am impatient for the curious and the damned to live this new chapter of the myth of “hell”, where every moment balances by the nightmare and revelation.
In addition, the decision to define history in the labyrinth seems to be a nod to “Hellbound: Hellraiser II”, the most underestimated and imaginative film of the whole saga. This film also explores the darkest corners of the lawn at the Maison des Cenobites – and has many ideas that will work in a horror game.
What video games can learn from Hellbound: Hellraiser II
The first “Hellraiser” shows a brief overview of the labyrinth when the Cenobites arrive in the cotton family, asking us what horrors are beyond the shadow. This question is answered in “Hellbound: Hellraiser II”, who sees Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) entering the dimension of the labyrinth, only to meet cenobites, maniac doctors and old family members who have been cursed in an eternity of legendary suffering. Not only does she have to face the monsters, but she must also face past trauma, and this is really spoiled.
While the basic plot concerns Kirsty trying to escape from a demonic kingdom, the film suggests something bigger. The labyrinth is a dimension made up of endless labyrinths, populated by all kinds of creatures and governed by its own hierarchies. Video games should adopt similar sensitivities by ensuring that Aid’s quest discovers more knowledge of the labyrinth and its culture. The dimension has also been explored in a fairly sensitive way in the “Hellraiser” comics, so there is no shortage of ideas for game developers. At the same time, the labyrinth is large enough for the game developer to widen his tradition and bring his own ideas to the table.
A demonic labyrinth is an ideal setting for a horror game where the global mission is to find someone, and “Hellbound: Hellraiser II” embodies the type of nightmarish mysteries that he should seek to explore. If nothing else, “Hellraiser: revival” will be a difficult and scary game that is easy to get lost. But we really hope that the game capitalizes on the opportunity to extend the myth, because the above -mentioned suite covers only a few corners of this unique world. Pinhead always has such sites to show us, so our fingers are crossed for this game to teach us more about his kingdom.
