The measles epidemic means that the virus can be there to stay

The measles epidemic that started in Texas with only a few cases in late January has now extended to a point where certain health authorities call it an epidemic.

The latest official count of centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed more than 1,000 cases in at least 30 states.

With this rapid transmission of infections, the United States should exceed the number of measles for 2019 (1,274 cases in 31 states), which had been the largest epidemic since measles was declared eradicated in 2000.

The unexpected increase in the number of cases so far this year corresponds to the definition of the CDC of an epidemic, but if the trend continues, scientists also fear that measles can again endemic, which means that the disease will always be present in certain geographic areas.
