“ Dune 3 ” obtains an official title, shot with IMAX cameras

What is in a name?

Denis Villeneuve’s next return to Arrakis is officially entitled “Dune: Third party”. The reports had called the film “Dune Messiah”, a nod to the 1969 book by Frank Herbert that the film will adapt like his scenario, according to Paul “Muad’dib” atreids while he takes over as an emperor. On Retrak, the film is listed as “dune: third part”.

The film will also include sequences shot with IMAX cameras. However, “Dune: the third part” will not be fully turned with IMAX cameras, according to the traces of “The Odyssey” by Christopher Nolan, who is the first film and so far to be produced in this way.

In an interview on CNBC, the CEO of IMAX, Richard Gelfond, seemed to suggest that the next “dune” would be fully filmed with the company’s owner cameras, but he seems to have spoken badly. At the end of the interview, Gelfond was questioned about the recruitment of Villeneuve by Amazon MGM Studios to direct their restart of the James Bond franchise. The executive’s response also discussed the director’s plans for “dune: third part” in Warner Bros. And Legendary Entertainment, which will film before the renewal 007.

“From a personal point of view, I was really happy. I like him. I think he is a genius filmmaker,” said Gelfond about the hiring of Bond. “He’s so creative. He is doing the next” dune “- with the Imax cameras, he films everything. So we haven’t started talking yet, but I pray that this is the case with Bond.”

A Legendary spokesperson did not respond to requests for comments.

Gelfond also praised the success of IMAX throughout the summer superproduction season of the year, citing that “F1” won 23% of its opening weekend brushes in IMAX auditoriums. Meanwhile, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” made 20% in IMAX its first two weeks.

“Think of 20% of the box office, when we are less than 1% of screens. The public really demands it,” said Gelfond.

Filming on “Dune: the third part” should start imminently, Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya taking up their roles. Jason Momoa also confirmed that he would come back for “the third part”, after having presented in the first “dune” but not appearing in “part two”.

Last year, Villeneuve spoke of the film and said that the next episode of “Dune” “will not be the completion of a trilogy” in his eyes.

“First, it is important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,” said Villeneuve about the first two films “Dune”. “It was really a pair of films that will be the adaptation of the first book. It’s done and it’s over. If I do a third, what is in the writing process, it is not like a trilogy. It is strange to say that, but if I go back, it is to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”

In a recent interview with Variety, Bruce Markoe, Vice-President Director and Head of Post-Production in IMAX, explained What a film being “shot with IMAX” means for the public and the filmmakers.

“These films that have been shot with our cinema cameras receive this kind of nomenclature. These are different from the films” filmed for Imax ”, which are all shot with digital cameras. However, many of the same type of process takes place in making the film when they shoot with our cinema cameras, “said Markoe. “These films are still doing a lot of tests and criticisms, and the filmmakers work closely with us throughout production, because it is our camera on the set, while the program“ filmed for Imax ” uses certified digital cameras which are not necessarily unique. “

“Dune: third part” should arrive in theaters in December 2026.
