* The league player Jorge Mateo begins his rehabilitation mission this evening with Triple-A Norfolk, in the lead and playing at the Cop. He is on the injured list with inflammation of the left elbow.
When asked if he expects a long mission, the acting manager Tony Mansolino replied: “My personal feelings is that I hope that is the case to give it a chance to play.”
“We needed him to start the year in Toronto with a little where we were,” continued Mansolino. “We asked Jackson to play the stop stop, and Jackson is very capable of playing the stop stop, but I think that when you get a young player like Jackson, you just want him to get comfortable where he will be. We asked a lot of things to him.
“He did not have the chance to really play a ton. He missed half of last year and he did not play a ton last year too, so it’s probably a good opportunity for him to go play. He is missing and we need him here, without any doubt, but since we have health and that we have players who play well, I hope it will have a chance to play there.”
Orioles have a rotation of six men and a small enclosure with Young from tonight. This will probably not be so.
“Not necessarily,” said Mansolino. “You know how it goes. It’s never in flow. We are constantly mixing pieces and try to find the right mixture. We will see where it’s okay.”
