Tottenham plot £86m move for Samu Aghehowa in January double raid

Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a genuine striker this winter, alongside their interest in Brazilian winger Savinho.

Frank’s Tottenham struggles for creativity and consistency

With Brentford, Thomas Frank established himself as a tactically astute manager, whose ability to adapt helped the Bees establish themselves in the Premier League.

His exploits were enough for Spurs to choose him as Ange Postecoglou’s successor, although after a promising start the Lilywhites began to stutter. Tottenham have won just two of their last ten Premier League matches, and all too often Frank’s side find themselves seriously lacking in the final third.

Four points behind sixth-placed Manchester United, Tottenham have unsurprisingly been linked with a number of entries. Manchester City winger Savinho has been touted for a move to north London as Spurs look for a replacement for Brennan Johnson.

Despite finishing last season as the club’s top scorer, Frank allowed Johnson to leave and the Welshman swapped north for south London, joining Crystal Palace.

It would appear that alongside a new winger to replace the Eagles’ new star, Tottenham are also keen to strengthen their current number nine selection.

Tottenham want to sign Aghehowa

Long considered a promising talent, Samu Aghehowa joined Porto from Atletico Madrid in 2024 to play more first-team football. The Portuguese giants have only benefited from their decision, with Aghehowa scoring 45 goals for the club in just 69 appearances in all competitions.

At just 21 years old, Aghehowa is understandably on the radar of many teams and according to CaughtOffside, the Spaniard is a player Spurs like “very much” alongside their interest in Savinho.

A Samu Amhehaway porter

Richarlison has had a good season so far, with eight goals to his name by the end of the year. Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani, two other Tottenham strikers, have scored just four in total, while Dominic Solanke has struggled with injury problems.

Aghehowa, who has been described as a “box dominator” by scout Ben Mattinson, has the physicality a player needs to succeed in England’s top flight. It would be an exciting signing, but certainly not an easy one. It appears Porto have no interest in selling Aghehowa, meaning Spurs would have to meet the striker’s £86m release clause.

If Tottenham continue and succeed in their attempts to sign Aghehowa alongside Savinho, then perhaps Frank can approach the second half of the season with more threat and consistency in his team’s attack.
