Hugh Jackman’s song Sung Blue criticized by character’s son

Hugh Jackman’s new film Song sung in bluein which he plays a Neil Diamond tribute artist, Mike Sardina, faces backlash from the character’s real-life son.

Michael Sardina Jr. spoke out against Song sung in bluetelling the Daily Mail that he strongly disapproves of the way the film portrays his late father and stepmother, Claire Sardina. He thought the film’s portrayal of his father would have upset him, adding that it was likely “rolling in his grave right now“.

According to the interview, Sardina Jr. said that he and his sister, Angelina Sardina, received relatively modest compensation for acting as consultants on Song sung in blue. He claimed the compensation was ridiculously low given their connection to the story and their expected involvement.

While Angelina is portrayed in the film by King Princess, Mike Jr. alleged that her role in his father’s life was intentionally excluded. She also stated that she had no communication with the actor playing her character, Hugh Jackman, Kate Hudson or any other cast members during production.

Although they had no communication with the cast throughout filming, they were both invited to attend the film’s New York premiere on December 11, 2025. Their mother-in-law and daughters, Dayna and Rachel Cartwright, were also in attendance. The children from Claire’s previous marriage are also depicted in the film.

He said he briefly introduced himself to Hudson at the premiere and later criticized the film’s stars for excluding him from the narrative during interviews, even calling them “monstersHe argued that his relationship with his father was important and that his absence from the film and promotional materials was disrespectful to him and his family.

Mike Jr. said he is determined to tell the public what he believes to be the complete and accurate story of his family. He added that he intends to hold NBCUniversal and everyone involved in the film accountable, saying his family was treated unfairly in the process. Claire, on the other hand, spoke positively about the film and Hudson’s portrayal of her. The actor previously explained that his performance was influenced by a 2008 documentary about the couple.

Song sung in blue is now playing in theaters.
