Crashes during the release of Stranger Things 5 Finale

Vecna strikes again!
Netflix crashed for some users Wednesday night during the premiere of the “Stranger Things” series finale. The streamer also experienced technical issues a few weeks ago during the season 5 premiere on November 26.
The streamer crashed at 5 p.m. PT, coinciding with the release time of the “Stranger Things 5” finale. The crash lasted about a minute and was fixed after a few updates. As was the case last time, users encountering the error were presented with an image of “Nailed It!” with the caption: “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having issues with your request. There’s plenty to explore on the home page.”
During the November 26 crash, Netflix was down for about five minutes when the first four episodes of Season 5 were released at 5 p.m. PT. “Stranger Things” Season 4 also caused technical issues in July 2022 when the final episodes were dropped. Outside of Upside Down, Netflix had live streaming issues when the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match aired live last year.
Netflix survived the second batch of “Stranger Things” Season 5 episodes, released on Christmas Day, and encountered no technical issues. These episodes propelled Netflix to its highest-ever Christmas Day viewership. Season 5 was the most watched title in the world thanks to the three new episodes. Between December 22 and 28, the fifth and final season was viewed 34.5 million times. It’s the second-best weekly total of the season after debuting with 59.6 million views in November, marking Netflix’s best opening week for an English-language title.
The highly anticipated series finale will also premiere in select theaters on New Year’s Eve. According to co-creator Ross Duffer, 1.1 million people attended the theatrical screenings. He added that 3,500 screenings are sold out in 620 rooms.
“What a way to cap off a 10 year journey – together,” he wrote on Instagram with his brother and co-creator Matt Duffer. “Maybe we’ll see some of you again in Los Angeles.”
