SUPERGIRL would be a lower budget DC film; James Gunn responds to Wonder Woman casting rumors

DC Studios is expected to produce films of all sizes, ranging from big-budget blockbusters like Superman to smaller, R-rated horror films like clay face. The latter will be a lower budget title, and according to a new report from Puck, the same goes for Supergirl.
According to the site, the film’s budget is low, making it that much easier for the DCU film to break even. That’s good news for DC Studios, but there are already hard-to-ignore signs that the company has sought to cut costs with Craig Gillespie’s adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow.
To start, it doesn’t look as visually epic like the comic it’s based on.
Then there’s the fact that Jason Momoa is by far the biggest name in the world. Supergirl (and he should only have a small cameo role as Lobo). By casting a relative unknown in the role of the Maiden of Power—Dragon House former Milly Alcock – it makes sense DC Studios didn’t choose a recognizable star for Krem of the Yellow Hills. Instead, The old guard Star Matthias Schoenaerts will play the film’s main villain.
For some reason, DC Studios isn’t casting stars. Based on this news, it seems increasingly likely that this is a money-saving tactic. The MCU wasn’t exactly populated with big stars when it launched, but the franchise still cast Jeff Bridges, Anthony Hopkins, and Tommy Lee Jones as a way to attract moviegoers and add credibility to its films.
James Gunn and Peter Safran apparently have other plans, so we’ll see if that pays off. Superman was the highest-grossing superhero movie of this year, so it’s so far, so good, anyway.
Recently, it was reported that Gunn was considering casting Wonder Woman for 2027. The man of tomorrowand there have been rumors of casting news as early as next month. Unfortunately, the DC Studios co-CEO reigned in expectations by responding to a fan on Threads.
When asked if it was true that the DCU’s Diana Prince would be cast in January, Gunn responded with a simple: “No.” That doesn’t mean Wonder Woman isn’t here The man of tomorrowbut we can clearly forget an announcement coming in the new year.
Supergirlthe latest DC Studios feature film to hit the big screen, is coming to theaters worldwide next summer from Warner Bros. Pictures, and stars Milly Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. Craig Gillespie is directing the film from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira.
When an unexpected and ruthless adversary hits too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly teams up with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
