Iraqi Prime Minister affirms continued cooperation with UN after end of UNAMI mandate

Baghdad / NINA/ – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani affirmed the continuity of relations between Iraq and the United Nations, as well as continued cooperation within the framework of joint bilateral programs.
This happened during his meeting with Mohamed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, on the occasion of the conclusion of his mission in Iraq and the end of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). Al-Sudani expressed his gratitude to Al-Hassan and all UNAMI staff for their efforts and the support they have provided to Iraq in various fields since the fall of the former dictatorial regime until today.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, Al-Sudani noted that the conclusion of the UNAMI mandate reflects the capacity of Iraqi state institutions to effectively discharge their constitutional and legal responsibilities, describing the decision as an important step towards strengthening national sovereignty, while maintaining cooperation with the United Nations through agreed bilateral programs.
For his part, Al-Hassan praised the progress made in Iraq in recent years, especially during the tenure of the current government, highlighting the significant steps that contributed to reaching this stage and affirming his commitment to continuing cooperation with Iraq through various future programs.
