James Cameron promises press conference for Avatar 4 and 5 if films don’t happen

As of this writing, Avatar: Fire and Ash has earned over half a billion worldwide (via The Numbers). We don’t want to announce it too soon, but we expect it to make a few cents more too. Even with its meteoric success, one person playing it cool regarding the future of Pandora is the creator of the world himself, James Cameron.
For years, plans for the Oscar-winning director’s blue franchise have always been to bring at least five chapters to the screen, with hints dating back to 2022 teasing the fifth chapter, seemingly bringing the Na’vi to Earth. However, if the trio doesn’t quite achieve the success of their predecessors, James Cameron has a backup plan to reveal the future of Avatar if we never see it.
Well, that would certainly be an interesting way to wrap things up. The truth is, given the amount of knowledge the director has already created, this proposed press conference might go on for a bit. Fortunately, Cameron revealed that he would be happy to expand the Avatar story into books if the films don’t continue.
“There’s so much culture and history and side details in these characters that have been fleshed out. I would love to do something that’s at that level of granular detail.” But maybe it’s a gamble, because he adds: “There’s no business model for this anymore. People don’t read.” While this is up for debate, a page-turning book written by James Cameron feels like it would definitely be worth reading.
