Snapchat’s new Quick Cut stitches together a video for you

Snap just launched a new Quick Cut video editing tool directly within Snapchat that “helps Snapchatters turn their favorite memories into synced, share-ready videos in seconds.”

With Quick Cut, you can select multiple photos or clips and then “instantly preview a rendered video,” and the feature is accessible from multiple places in the app, including from Memories and your Camera Roll. When you create a video, Quick Cut also automatically adds music and syncs it with the clips you put together, although you can edit the track if you want and you can also add lenses to your Quick Cut video. If you want to do more detailed editing with tools like a timeline editor, you can do so before publishing the video.

I spent a few minutes playing with Quick Cut, and it’s fun and easy to use. With just two short clips that I took of myself, Quick Cut was able to automatically stitch together a goofy video that cut between parts of the two videos to the beat of the theme song from Stranger Things. For true content creators or even someone who just wants to create something fun for their friends, I could see how Quick Cut could really be useful.

Quick Cut is now available on iOS, and Snap plans to expand it to “more Surfaces and Android devices soon.”
