The promotional art for SUPERGIRL has an intriguing tagline; Creative Team Introduces DCU’s New ‘Imperfect Anti-Hero’

The first trailer for Supergirl gets everyone talking (you can read our breakdown here), and now we have promotional artwork for the upcoming DC Studios film.

It mainly focuses on the “Truth.” Justice. Never mind “. slogan, but one article states: “She’s nobody’s sidekick.” Could this be a reference to the fact that Kara Zor-El doesn’t want to stay stuck in her cousin Superman’s shadow? We would agree on this, and it could explain his decision to leave Earth.

Variety caught up Supergirl director Craig Gillespie at the trailer launch event, who explained: “It’s very much an anti-hero story. It has a lot of baggage and a lot of demons that come into play, which is very different from where Superman is in his life.”

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn was on hand to add: “A lot of times female superheroes are so perfect. She’s not at all. She’s very flawed, like male superheroes have been allowed to be for a while.”

At the time this interview took place, news had just come that Netflix to acquire Warner Bros. for more than 80 billion dollars. Apparently responding to this (while being careful not to get himself into trouble), Gunn noted: “This is a story-based media, we want the stories to be presented in rooms that are cool and different from each other.”

“This movie isn’t just a female Superman clone. It’s its own story entirely, with a character who also deserves that treatment.”

The Hollywood Reporter also managed to catch up with Gunn and Peter Safran, with the former stating “we’re just getting started” and expressing confidence in the future of the DCU when asked if SupermanBox office success had added to the pressure. Safran echoed these thoughts by emphasizing: “We arrived as a little outsider.”

Supergirlthe latest DC Studios feature film to hit the big screen, is coming to theaters worldwide next summer from Warner Bros. Pictures, and stars Milly Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. Craig Gillespie is directing the film from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira.

When an unexpected and ruthless adversary hits too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly teams up with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice. Alcock stars alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham and Jason Momoa.

Supergirl arrives in theaters on June 26, 2026.
