Carl Froch says he couldn’t beat a single fighter even in his prime: ‘I wouldn’t have a chance’

Carl Froch sits at the table among the best at super middleweight, but ‘The Cobra’ recently admitted there was one division rival he didn’t think he had a chance of defeating.

In a competitive era, Nottingham-born Froch defeated some of the biggest names in the 168-pound ranks, toppling Jean Pascal to get his hands on the WBC super middleweight title before defending it against Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell.

Froch’s first reign was then cut short by Mikkel Kessler, but the granite-chinned fan favorite would go on to become a four-time titleholder in the division, with his only other career loss coming against the legendary Andre Ward. His courage got him through some difficult nights under the lights, and he was always adamant that he would take on anyone.

However, on his YouTube channel, Froch defended the great Roy Jones Jr. and admitted that he wouldn’t have stood a chance if he had been tasked with “Captain Hook” in his prime.

“If I’m honest, no, [I don’t think I could beat Roy Jones Jr] and I was a four-time world super middleweight champion and a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

“Look, I can’t stand here and say that, [against] Roy Jones in his prime at super middleweight, I would have had a chance because the guy was so fast and so skilled.

“But I was tough, and I would have kept going, so who knows? Maybe I could have reached him, but I never had the honor of sharing the ring with him.”

While Jones could have campaigned at super middleweight and dominated, he instead chose to try his hand at the higher weight classes and became both a four-division champion and the first fighter to win both a middleweight and heavyweight world title since Bob Fitzsimmons in 1897. Froch once called him one of the best of all time.
