SUPERMAN and BATMAN Statues at Convention Spark Speculation About Robert Pattinson Joining the DCU

Now that Superman is released, DC Studios simultaneously brings live-action Batman and Superman franchises to the big screen. There’s just one slight problem: they live in completely different universes. The Dark Knight is played by Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves’ dark world, The Batman, while the Man of Steel is played by David Corenswet in James Gunn’s colorful universe. Despite the distinction between the two, fans have long wanted to see Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne merge in the DCU.

There was a time when this seemed like a real possibility. However, as time goes on, it seems more likely that DC Studios will have its own version of the Caped Crusader existing at the same time as Reeves’ iteration. Yet, as the old, widely paraphrased adage goes, hope is the last thing to disappear. A curious thing happened that made fans wonder once again if there was a chance that Pattinson’s Batman would make his way into James Gunn and Peter Safran’s universe.

DC Studios had a strong presence at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil. Aside from the focus on the upcoming Craig Gillespie film Supergirlthe convention also featured two incredible life-size statues of David Corenswet’s Superman and Robert Pattinson’s Batman side by side. An image of the statues was shared on X:

The statues placed next to each other had eager fans wondering if DC Studios was slyly hinting at the possibility of Matt Reeves’ Dark Knight being incorporated into the ongoing DC Universe:

Other fans simply shared their excitement about the possibility of seeing Pattinson share the screen with Corenswet’s Clark Kent:

Despite speculation, the statue’s location is unlikely to signal anything. The Batman And Superman are highly successful ongoing franchises for two of DC’s biggest characters. With no DCU Batman at the moment, it makes sense to display both properties side by side. As such, the placement appears to be a demonstration of DC’s cinematic heritage, rather than a potential merger between the two properties.

During a Appearance in 2024 on Josh Horowitz Happy Sad Confused podcast, James Gunn was asked if he had considered Robert Pattinson becoming the Batman of the DCU. The director replied: “I’ve considered it. Yeah. We’ve considered it. I have to contemplate everything, Josh. [We have to] talk about everything.”

Then, speaking to Entertainment tonight in 2025, Gunn said of Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne merging into the DCU: “We’ve talked about it before, but that’s not what’s happening right now. You know, look, it’s all evolving. So we’ll figure out what we do next, yeah.”

With Matt Reeves’ Batman already well established, his addition to the DCU would help the franchise in building a predefined world. That said, there’s a good chance that DC Studios The brave and the bold will ultimately introduce an all-new Caped Crusader. During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Gunn even fulfilled his commitment to the DCU feature that has been in development for a long time, stating:

“If you’re going to make a Batman movie, it better be great.”

Superman returns to the cinema in The man of tomorrowwhich is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will make his comeback in The Batman Part IIreleased October 1, 2027.
