FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’s 2 claims the domestic box office crown but ZOOTOPIA 2 is the real monster

Anyone who follows Disney’s track record and keeps an eye on international box office trends probably expects that Zootopia 2 be a successful player abroad, particularly in China.

But even the most optimistic predictions fall far short of anticipating just how massive the sequel is poised to become.

As the current slate of films scrambles to recoup as many dollars as possible before Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters on December 19, here are the box office statistics for the weekend of December 5-7, as well as the current financial status of each film.

Zootopia 2 grossed another $43 million at the North American box office this weekend, and another (jaw-dropping) $219 million in international markets, for a total worldwide weekend gross of $262 million.

The Zootopia brand has become a powerhouse in China, thanks in part to the dedicated Zootopia-themed land at the Shanghai Disney Resort and savvy marketing from Disney, which cleverly linked the film’s animal depictions to elements of the Chinese zodiac – it’s currently the Year of the Snake!

This strategy paid off handsomely. The sequel’s box office in China soared to $430.4 million, almost double the $220.4 million raked in in the United States and Canada.

Keep in mind that the film is achieving this success with an estimated production budget of $150 million, as some analysts are predicting a final total of $1.5 billion to $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office.

FNAF 2 movie

During its opening weekend, the Five Nights at Freddy’s The sequel raked in $63 million from domestic theaters and an additional $46.0 million in international markets, for a worldwide opening weekend of $109 million.

The price of the film is modest, $36 million.

Despite even weaker reviews for the sequel, it appears the latest entry is well on its way to becoming profitable for Blumhouse Productions and Universal, meaning a third entry is likely on the way.

Bad for good

While much of the box office chatter currently centers on Zootopia 2′s dominant performances, Villain: for good moves forward quietly, bringing in another $16.75 million from North American screens and another $13.4 million from international territories.

Wicked: For Good is now at $440.1 million worldwide and counting.

Going forward, the additional box office dollars for the sequel from this point on will essentially count as profit, as the $150 million sequel most likely just broke even after just three weekends in theaters.

Jujitsu Kaisen Movie

The start of GKids’ release Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution grossed a respectable $10.15 million domestically. Keep in mind that this is a special (compilation film), which mainly upgrades the footage previously shown in season 2 of the anime, while also showing footage from the upcoming third season.

The film has already been released in several other international territories (including Japan) in November. The film currently has a worldwide box office gross of $40.35 million.

new movie Now you see me

Now you see me: now you don’t see me anymorethe third part of Now you see me the film series now stands at $210 million worldwide, after collecting $9 million internationally and $3.5 million domestically last weekend.

The film achieves this goal after completing its fourth weekend in theaters.

The film’s price tag is $90 million.
