Mohamed Salah lashes out and says he was ‘thrown under the bus’ by Liverpool and Arne Slot

Mohamed Salah claims he was ‘thrown under the bus’ by Liverpool and claims to have no relationship with boss Arne Slot.
Salah failed to come off the bench as Liverpool were denied a win at Leeds this evening, with Ao Tanaka scoring an injury-time equalizer to give the hosts a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Hugo Ekitike started and Alexander Isak came on late, but Salah – a two-time Premier League champion with the Reds – did not appear.
The Egypt international then said: “I don’t know what to say. It’s funny but I couldn’t believe it. It’s a really disappointing result for us as a team because we hope to win a game like that.”
When asked to explain what he couldn’t believe, Salah added: “That I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. The third time on the bench, I think is the first time in my career.
“I’m very, very disappointed to be honest. I’ve done so much for this club over the years and especially last season.
“Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It feels like the club threw me under the bus. That’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone wanted me to take all the blame.
“I got a lot of promises this summer and so far I’ve been on the bench for three games so I can’t say they’re keeping their promise.”
We don’t have a relationship – Salah on Slot
Salah signed a new two-year contract this summer after a brilliant season in 2024/25, Slot’s first at the club, but claims his relationship with the Dutchman is not what it used to be.
“I have already said several times that I have a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we have no relationship,” said the former Roma and Chelsea striker.
“I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.
“This club, I still support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much I always will. I called my mom yesterday – you didn’t know if I was going to start or not, but I knew.”
I don’t know what’s going to happen – Salah
Liverpool host Brighton next weekend, after which Salah is expected to join Egypt’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
And he even suggested it might be his last appearance for the club.
He said: “Yesterday I told them [my family]come to the Brighton match. I don’t know if I’m going to play or not but I’m going to enjoy it.
“In my head, I’m going to enjoy this match because I don’t know what’s going to happen now.
“I will be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and take part in the Africa Cup of Nations. I don’t know what will happen when I get there.”
“I’m not the problem”
Salah is fed up with suggestions he is a ‘problem’.
“This is not acceptable to me,” he said. “I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t understand. I think that if it was elsewhere, each club would protect its player.
“The way I see it now, it’s like you throw Mo under the bus because he’s the problem in the team now. But I don’t think I’m the problem. I’ve done so much for this club.
“Respect, I want to get it. I don’t need to fight every day for my job because I earned it. I’m not bigger than anyone but I earned my job. That’s football. That’s what it is.
“Tomorrow, (Jamie) Carragher is going to support me again and again and that’s great.”
