Illegal Orders, Contempt Olympics and a Hero Guard

Welcome to RedState’s weekly briefing – where we quickly take a look at the most viewed stories of the week in case you missed one. What do you think caught people’s attention during this last hectic week? Grab a cup of coffee (or something stronger if you like) and sit down with this 21st century weekend edition of your favorite (online) publication.
#1 – Bad News for These Six Democrats Who Made an “Illegal Orders” Video — by Nick Arama
The interviews will be entered into the FBI file. They’ll probably ask things like how they came to make this video, who was involved, and what their goal was. And if they don’t tell the truth, that could be a problem. Let’s see if they do the interviews or try to dodge them. If they avoid them, that will tell you something too.
Democrats have taken their Trump derangement syndrome to new heights, and now it’s backfiring on them. We’ve seen it from the Epstein files to this video. Not only could this potentially create confusion within the military, but what must our enemies think when senators and representatives take such actions? They think they’re going to smear President Donald Trump, but what they’re really doing is raising more questions about their own actions.
#2 – The White House Ballroom Outrage Machine Is About to Lose Its Mind Over Trump’s Latest Renovation Announcement — by Rusty Weiss
The last major renovations were carried out under Barack Obama. Nobody complained. Nobody thought twice about it. They will protest one way or another because it’s Trump.
Now, the president could very well be just hinting at a routine draining and cleaning of the reflecting pool in time for America’s 250th birthday festivities. But for liberals still reeling from the recent demolition of the White House’s East Wing to make way for a new ballroom, this message will almost certainly spark some outrage.
Does Trump’s “solution” mean anything more? Does his suggestion that “you won’t see it again” mean the president is going to tear it down and replace it with a huge personal spa (the biggest you’ve ever seen) with gold-encrusted light fixtures?

#3 – Shocking new footage shows fearless guard turning the tables on Afghan terrorist as he reloads and returns fire – by Rusty Weiss
Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan refugee initially escorted to the United States on a temporary visa issued to him in 2021 by the Biden administration, is seen in video and live footage obtained by The Wall Street Journal brandishing a revolver.
A witness revealed that Lakanwal opened fire on Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe on the streets of Washington, D.C., sending another guard running around the corner as he desperately reloaded his gun.
The Journal reports that “five seconds later,” the guard fired back at the suspect. Investigators had separately reported that a review of video footage from the scene showed a guard exchanged fire with the terrorist before, as the New York Post reported, additional troops were able to “crush and pin down the shooter as he was taken into custody.”

#4 – Hoo Boy: House Dem’s Reckless Response About Whether He Will Do FBI Interview Over ‘Illegal Orders’ Video — by Nick Arama
“Are you planning to cooperate?” » asked Berman.
“I have no intention of sitting down for a voluntary interview, no,” Deluzio replied.
Berman was surprised and asked the logical question: “Oh? Why not ?
Deluzio looked shocked at being asked this question and didn’t answer for a second or two. He said: “Well, everyone in this country has the right to refuse to do that. And I think this is clearly an attempt to intimidate us.” He said he was a congressman, as if that meant he was above it all.

#5 – Uh-Oh: Mark Kelly enters the ‘discovery’ phase after urging the military to defy orders, and it’s not good – by Rusty Weiss
The DOW does not explicitly mention the video, but cites the UCMJ to explain the consequences Kelly could face.
“Pursuant to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC § 688, and other applicable regulations, a thorough review of these allegations has been initiated to determine further action, which may include recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings or administrative action,” they write. “This matter will be handled in accordance with military law, ensuring due process and impartiality.”
Other comments make clear that this investigation is about the video, reminding retired military personnel that they are subject to the same laws that “prohibit actions intended to undermine the loyalty, morale, good order and discipline of the armed forces.”
