Zootopia 2 box office breaks another major record in a single day

Zootopia 2 broke another record before its first full weekend in theaters even began. 2025 Zootopia 2 is the sequel to a 2016 Disney film that grossed over $1 billion in theaters.

The new film, which debuted on Wednesday, November 26 ahead of American Thanksgiving, also appears on track to hit that milestone after winning the second best domestic box office previews for a Disney animated film always, behind the hit of 2024 Moana 2.

By Variety, Zootopia 2 raked in $34 million on its opening day in China. This marks the highest grossing American animated film in a single day in the territory. It’s also the highest-grossing opening day for an American film in China since F9: The Fast Saga debuted in May 2021 and is the tenth best U.S. opening day in China of all time.

This Chinese transport has pushed Zootopia 2Cumulative international gross of is $41.6 million. Its receipts will continue to grow, as the film has only opened in 17 international markets so far and will have debuted in most major markets by the end of Sunday (except Japan, which gets the film the first weekend in December).

So far, Zootopia 2 earned $80.1 million worldwidewhich made Disney’s animated sequel the 44th highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide before its official first weekend in theaters even began.

The success of Zootopia 2 comes just months after China premiered local animated title Ne Zha II the first film to gross over $1 billion in a single territory. It has since become the highest-grossing animated film of all time.with its massive global total of $1.902 billion surpassing Inside Out 2That’s $1.699 billion.

Zootopia 2 I can’t really compare with Ne Zha IIwhich achieved a $296.6 million opening weekend in China. However, its success could reflect an increased appetite for animated films in the territory. While China has recently become more selective about which American titles can be released in cinemas in the region.this could be good news for the global prospects of future American animated films.

Other animated IP titles that will follow Disney’s Zootopia 2 in cinemas include Toy Story 5, The Ice Age: Boiling Point, Frozen IIIAnd Shrek5so it’s entirely possible that the new film’s record will be broken sooner rather than later.
