Slender Man stabbing defendant found in Illinois after fleeing group home
Morgan Geyser, who was charged with attempted homicide at age 12 after she said she stabbed a friend to appease the fictional character Slender Man, was arrested in Illinois a day after escaping from a group home, according to Madison police.
Geyser, now 23, disappeared from her group home on Nov. 22 after cutting off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet. She was last seen in the Kroncke Drive area around 8 p.m. with an adult acquaintance, according to Madison police.
It remains unclear why 12 hours passed between when she was last seen and when police and the public were informed.
She was arrested in Illinois around 10:34 p.m. on Nov. 23, police said.
She was granted parole earlier this year after a judge ruled there was no risk to the public or to her.
Geyser and co-defendant Anissa Weier were charged with attempted homicide of their friend Payton Leutner, who was stabbed 19 times near Davids Park in Waukesha in May 2014. All three girls were 12 years old at the time.
Geyser and Weier said they thought they were doing what the fictional online character Slender Man wanted. They were found not guilty by reason of mental deficiency or mental illness in 2017 and sentenced to mental confinement, Weier to 25 years and Geyser to 40 years.
