Sir Rod Stewart, 80, praised the “generous” friend Sir Elton John, 78, while plunging into their respective careers under the spotlight.
The two men are two of the best known and appreciated musicians in Great Britain, accumulating countless number one tubes, concerts and platinum albums between them.
And their respective careers have gained ground at similar moments in their lives, Sir Rod making his first number one for Maggie May in 1971 before Sir Elton followed him in 1976 with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.
Speaking in a new podcast, Sir Rod revealed that it was not only in the charts where the two musicians regularly occupied the same space, but they even lived in a stone throwing from each other in the 1970s.

Sir Rod was grilled about his friendly but competitive nature during an appearance on the Podcast Peter Crouch, with Sir Elton used as an example.
“Yes, it’s (competitive). It’s like that since – we both used to live very close to each other in the early 1970s in Ascot,” said Sir Rod.

“So we were going to Christmas together and, you know, the Christmas gifts he bought me … You see, I thought I bought him a great Christmas present.
“It was like a refrigerator and you press a button and the steam appears, champagne and just like that, then it goes down, and it was 600 pounds. He gave me an AF *** Ing Rembrandt.”
“Incredible,” added Sir Rod while the hosts Peter Crouch, Steve Sidwell and Chris Stark shared a laugh.
Sir Rod then praised his musical boyfriend with a short but sweet tribute. “He is one of the most generous guys I have ever met,” he continued.
Unfortunately, however, although he admitted that he returned to his friendship with Sir Elton and other Showbiz friends, Sir Rod said that he did not see the Hitmaker of Rocket Man that often today.

Naturally, the conversation turned to football. Sir Rod is one of the most famous fans of Celtic, while Sir Elton even had a stand named after him at the Watford FC stadium, the road vicage.
When he was asked if Sir Elton took him to his beloved Watford, Sir Rod replied: “Oh, my God, yeah. We used to go.
“We would stand overnight doing drugs and things, then a blow at the door at 10 am.” Come on, Stewart! “”

The legendary rocker received the Lifetime Achievement Award of five of his children during the ceremony, admitting: “I am absolutely stunned. I did not know that they were here – my children.”
The veteran rocker was so overwhelmed by the surprise that he abandoned an explanive during his acceptance speech, which was published from the CBS broadcast.
