Cougar Football changes the theme of the game

HOUSTON– No. 22 Houston Football Team to Honor Late Director of Strength and Performance Kurt Hester during its Saturday game against West Virginia by changing its game theme to that of the team Blackout game – Coach Hester’s favorite color was black.
Hester, who had been battling Stage IV melanoma since February, died Saturday before Houston’s upset victory at then No. 24/25 Arizona State.
The Cougars will wear black uniforms for the game in her honor and brandish #Unbreakable on their helmet bumpers (the lower bottom portion of the helmet), Coach Hester’s slogan during her last eight months of life.
John M. O’Quinn Field will include #Unbreakable features in the field paint for Houston’s nationally televised game.
The Spirit of Houston will pay tribute during their halftime performance and spell “unbreakable” on the field.
Black products will be available at the Team Shop connected to the Stadium Garage and at authorized retailers across the city.
Additional plans to honor Coach Hester are being developed.
Houston was previously scheduled to have its Blackout November 22 game against TCU, but will now hold the Blackout Nov. 1 game against West Virginia. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. on FS1. Houston has won each of its last two games Blackout games, beating West Virginia in 2023 and Kansas State in 2024.
In addition to the Blackout Themed, Houston will honor the winning team of the 2015 Peach Bowl and American Athletic Conference Championship, 10 years after the program hoisted the Peach Bowl trophy. Fans can purchase special tickets for $20.15 to commemorate the 10th anniversary.
