Ho Chi Minh CityTruong Ngoc Anh, 49, former chairman of the board of directors of Dat Rong real estate joint stock company, was accused of breach of trust and misappropriating thousands of taels of gold and tens of billions of dong.
On October 31, actor Truong Ngoc Anh was arrested by the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Police Department due to his behavior. Breach of trust and appropriation of property.
Previously, Dat Rong Real Estate Joint Stock Company (Dat Rong Company), located at 25 Dao Duy Anh Street, Duc Nhuan District, filed a complaint against Truong Ngoc Anh, who served as chairman of the board and director of the company, for showing signs of appropriation of the company’s assets.

Dat Rong company was established in 2007 with Truong Ngoc Anh as director and legal representative. During the operation, Anh asked Mr. Pham (an Irish national) to provide a total investment capital of $9.1 million (equivalent to more than 149 billion VND) to implement two real estate projects, including the Indochina construction project at 112 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, 3rd District (old).
For this project alone, Mr. Pham transferred $4.49 million, the equivalent of VND72 billion.
According to the investment contract signed on January 25, 2008, the Indochina construction project is to be owned by Dat Rong Company with a value of more than 12,917 taels of gold. However, the verification results showed that just before signing the contract, the actress and Mr. Nguyen (61) signed a sales contract with 4 households on the project land for only 7,917 taels of gold.
The investigative agency determined that Anh had just paid 3,000 taels of gold but recorded in the company’s books that it had spent 4,458 taels, violating the investment agreement, showing signs of fraud, falsely increasing the value of the project to appropriate the difference.
The police announced the decision to prosecute Truong Ngoc Anh.
Previously, in December 2007, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City made the decision to recover this land to expand the Le Quy Don high school and paid more than 26.1 billion VND in compensation to four households. After that, the households returned the entire amount to Truong Ngoc Anh and Nguyen. However, Anh only transferred VND3 billion to the company and investors. The remaining more than 10 billion VND was used for personal purposes without reporting or accounting.
Furthermore, the investigation agency claims that during the process of running the company, Anh abused the authority of his legal representative, arbitrarily withdrew money from the company’s account, ordered the creation of false accounting records, and falsified financial reports to conceal the act of appropriation.
