How Practical Are These 8 Famous Weapons Used in The Walking Dead Universe?

Throughout The Walking Dead universe, we have seen groups survive by using the resources around them. Sometimes they have little or no resources. The most useful resource we’ve seen groups use to fight walkers are weapons found around them and weapons they’ve crafted themselves.
Several different unique weapons were used that were extremely useful in eradicating the walkers. However, there are times when I wonder how useful some of these weapons would be in a real zombie apocalypse. Today I’m going to rank eight famous weapons seen everywhere The Walking Dead universe and talking about their functionality in a zombie apocalypse.
8. Barbed Wire Bat aka Lucille
The barbed wire bat or otherwise known as Lucille is not a very good weapon to use in the apocalypse. First of all, it seems a bit complicated to create. Bats are easy to find, but barbed wire is a little harder to collect, and you need to make sure you don’t cut yourself while putting it together. Another downside is that Lucille is a short-range weapon that can take several hits to take down a walker. As we also saw with Lucille, it is susceptible to breakage after a while of use. This may save bullets, but you run a greater risk of getting bitten with this weapon at close range.

7. Morgan’s staff
The Morgan Jones staff can be a difficult weapon to learn to use. Everyone he teaches Eastman’s instructions to eventually takes time to learn how to fight with the weapon. I’m also not really sure how strong the staff would be when using it to kill walkers in an apocalypse. It probably takes some strength to be able to get it through a walker’s skull. However, the good news is that this gives you some distance from walkers and the ability to slow down multiple walkers at once by hitting them with the staff. Overall, I don’t think Morgan’s Staff would be ideal to use if a herd of walkers were chasing you.

6. Crossbow
I believe the crossbow is one of the most impractical weapons used anywhere The Walking Dead universe. The rate of fire is extremely low, and in the time it takes you to reload, the walkers will already have a feast with you as their main course. This can be useful at range, but you also need to consider the amount of arrows you have, and it is more difficult to carry arrows on your person than regular gun ammo.
You can ultimately reuse most arrows, which saves ammo, but they will also break over time. The advantage of using crossbows in the apocalypse is that they are silent weapons and are a great way to hunt for food. You can save gun ammo by using a crossbow to hunt, then you are less likely to attract walkers to you.

5. Ax
The ax is a weapon that we have seen quite a bit Walking death use of characters. Rick Grimes used it to make his way through the prison “graves” in Season 3 after losing his wife, Lori. The ax is a very useful weapon in the apocalypse, especially since it is an easy weapon to find, but it can be difficult to use when fighting walkers.
For example, we’ve sometimes seen characters struggle with the axe, trying to pull it out of walkers’ heads, which can lead to their demise if there are more walkers nearby. There is also a good chance that the ax will break if it is lodged in a walker’s skull. While an ax has multiple uses and can come in handy when it comes to chopping firewood and gathering wood for construction, it may not be the best weapon to use during an apocalypse.

4. Knife
A knife is a great weapon to use in times of need when you are short on resources. The job is done quickly, but it requires you to get up close and personal with the walkers. Using a knife can be dangerous in the presence of many walkers. It can also leave you more likely to be bitten. Carol Peletier’s brass knuckle knife is great because it gives you a good grip, but it can also be more difficult to use. The knuckle grip can prove difficult to maneuver the knife, as you will have to remove your fingers and reposition the weapon.
A knife has proven useful in many different circumstances throughout The Walking Dead universe. We’ve seen the group use them to prevent people from turning into walkers, to disembowel animals and walkers, as well as to defend themselves against other survivors. A knife is definitely a weapon that would be useful in a zombie apocalypse.

3. Machete
In my opinion, a machete is a lot like an ax and a knife. A machete is better because it keeps you further away from a walker than a knife would. The machete also seems easier to use to kill walkers than an axe, and is less likely to break. You can also use a machete for almost anything you use an ax for. It will take longer to fell trees, but a machete is ideal for cutting away branches and brush that are in the way. We saw a lot of characters in The Walking Dead use machetes to clear a path in the woods.
A machete also has a longer blade, is sharper and lighter than an axe, so it is a better weapon to use against walkers as well as for other survival needs. A machete can be like an ax in that it gets stuck in the walkers’ heads. In The Walking Dead, we see Rosita Espinosa teaching the Alexandrians how to use the machete, so there is a bit of a learning curve to using the weapon.

2. Colt Python
Rick Grime’s python foal is a weapon that has been used throughout The Walking Dead series and was passed down to Rick’s children to continue using it. This weapon is great to use when you need it to kill a few walkers. However, it is not very convenient to use if a whole herd is chasing you, a machine gun would be more useful for this.
The problem with using a weapon like a python foal in apocalypse would be the time it would take you to reload the weapon. Don’t get me wrong, guns are a great weapon to use in an apocalypse, and I think everyone in a world like The Walking Dead should carry one with them. However, the noise will definitely attract more walkers, so it would be best if you resort to shooting as a last option, unless you have a silencer.
A weapon with a silencer in the apocalypse is very useful as we have seen several characters use them in The Walking Dead universe, but if you use guns you need to take into account additional resources. You’ll need supplies to clean your gun as well as the obvious bullets, and I mean lots of bullets. Watching the show we saw how easy it is to run out of bullets and during the Negan War everyone was desperate for bullets. Fortunately, Dr. Eugene Porter was an excellent bullet maker and could help them replenish their stocks. Unfortunately, not everyone will have a bullet maker on hand during the apocalypse, so after a while guns might be difficult to use for self-defense.

1.Katana
Finally, we have the katana, mainly used by Michonne. I decided to put this weapon at the top of my list because it’s a powerful weapon that seems very effective against walkers. When Michonne uses the katana, we see her cut off the walker’s head, cutting them in two. If you have the resources to clean and keep the katana sharp, it would be a great weapon to defend against walkers. You can also use it to cut brush. This weapon is not only silent, but keeps walkers at a safe distance. It would take time to get used to the katana, so you will need to stay strong while training with it.
Overall, if I had to choose the best weapon combination to use during an apocalypse, it would be a gun, a knife, and a katana. These three weapons still seem to be of great use throughout The Walking Dead universe. The characters in the series always carry more than one weapon, which is ideal. It is not practical to choose only one weapon to use. Several of these weapons combined can be of great use in an apocalyptic world like The Walking Dead.
