ECW Legend Sabu To Film Emotional Documentary Before His Death, WWE Hall of Famer Reveals (Exclusive)

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam recently opened up about an exclusive documentary about his friend and ECW legend Sabu. The star died earlier this year, aged 60.

Sabu was a wrestling legend who revolutionized hardcore, death-defying action in the ring. He had a successful career, winning the ECW Championship twice. The hardcore legend went on to have some amazing matches against Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, Tazz and many others.

During a recent interview with Sportskeeda Editor-in-Chief Bill Apter, Van Dam explained that the documentary would showcase Sabu’s life before his final match. He pointed out that most of the filming took place when the legend died and the documentary also covered his funeral.

“Sabu wanted to have one more match and he wanted to film him preparing for it. Training, living up to the last match. Of course, like everything, plans change along the way. Sometimes it takes its own path. They recorded so much and did almost 95% of the film when Sabu passed away. So there really wasn’t much to add other than his funeral, unfortunately.”

The WWE Hall of Famer added that the documentary would provide insight into Sabu’s later years, how he got there and his passion for the wrestling business and fans.

“Not only is it a great expose of the man Sabu was, it’s raw and truthful and personal. When I say raw, there are a lot of scenes in there where people are surprised like, ‘I’m surprised you didn’t cut when he did this or when he said that.’ This is because we want to present the real Sabu. This is not an article about Sabu’s career, nor his rise to the stardom he achieved. Him young, following the Sheikh. It’s truly this man of today, where he is in life, and you’ll learn how he got here and what he means to the people who see him and interact with him. You will learn what wrestling means to Sabu, what fans mean to Sabu and certainly what this man means to him. Sabu.”

WWE also honored the hardcore legend following his passing. The company aired a vignette celebrating the legend’s life while WWE announcer Michael Cole spoke about how he was a trailblazer for an entire generation.
