It’s been a mess for a while. It’s actually the perfect representation of Barack Obama.

The local community was also unhappy or had concerns.
The Obama Center — which has faced years of delays and lawsuits since opening in September 2021 — will cover nearly 20 acres of the 540-acre Jackson Park and include a museum, public library, sports center, gardens and a children’s playground.
As the price tag for the privately financed project skyrocketed from its original $500 million budget, residents said they also saw rents and property taxes skyrocket as construction neared completion.
“Rents are rising rapidly,” Kyana Butler of Southside Together, one of three local activist groups that have lobbied the Obama Foundation to better integrate the project into the surrounding neighborhood, told the Daily Mail.
“A two-bedroom apartment that used to rent for $800 a month has already gone to $1,800. Property taxes are going up so much that the owner of my building says she might just walk away.
One resident called it a “monstrosity,” taking away from the beautiful area that once stood there. So much for the feelings of the residents. I guess they got lost in narcissism.

But it’s kind of hilarious that Obama posts about it, standing there with Michelle and admiring it, like it’s something awesome, because frankly, it has to be one of the ugliest buildings I’ve ever seen. “Let’s bring change to the house,” the video concludes. It’s a change, okay. But just like the change Obama brought to the country, it doesn’t look good, like the gray ugliness of Soviet Union buildings or a dystopian prison.
Some posted videos showing X-wing fighters from “Star Wars” closing in on the library building, while others photoshopped the structure on its side to replace the torsos of the massive AT-AT walkers from “The Empire Strikes Back.”
Others superimposed the Eye of Sauron from the movie “Lord of the Rings” onto its roof, and others simply posted photos of faces from Easter Island.
Cat litter boxes were also included in the comparisons, as were trash cans, dumpsters and ephemera from “Star Trek” and “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”
“It’s an ‘obamanation’! Just like his presidency!” one person wrote.
“It’s like someone built a Lego set without the instructions,” said another.
