SNL Host Sabrina Carpenter Credits Bowen Yang for Album Art

Sabrina Carpenter hosted this week’s episode of Saturday evening live. After a delay due to a college football game, the singer finally revealed the inspiration behind her album cover, Man’s best friend.

In her monologue, Carpenter displayed the controversial photo of herself. She explained that everyone had misunderstood what the photo was supposed to be. She humorously said the person who grabbed her hair was just Bowen, who was helping her up after Martin Short pushed her while she was standing in a buffet line. She then showed an enlarged version of the image, where it showed Yang standing next to her, pulling her hair. It also showed Short on the other side of her.

It was just me on all fours with an invisible figure pulling my hair. But what people don’t realize is that’s how they reframed it. If you zoom out, it’s clearly a shot from the 50th anniversary special of Bowen (Yang) helping me by my hair…” The image zoomed out again: “…after Martin Short pushed me out of the buffet line.

Carpenter also explained that she wanted to clear up any “misconceptions” about her as a person. She said that although many people thought she was just a singer who was too obsessed with sex, there was much more to her than that. The pop star joked: “I’m not just excited. I’m also horny and I’m sexually charged. And I love reading. My favorite book is the encyclopedia. It’s so big and it’s hard.»

Regardless, Carpenter made it clear that “There’s a real person underneath all the glitter, wigs and corsets” And, with that, she followed up with one of the most infamous things she does at her concerts, “arrest.” She went in front of the audience and interacted with many of the men in attendance.

However, before she could make his arrest, Saturday evening live veteran Keenan Thompson showed up to finish her monologue. It ended with him telling her that she was in trouble for impersonating an officer over two hundred times at his concerts before finally revealing that he just wanted an appearance.

Saturday evening live airs new episodes every Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. PT (except when there’s a college football delay) on NBC.
