Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy opened up about the viral post after his triumph in the 2025 Asia Cup final. He revealed that he had planned to celebrate the victory with the trophy, but in its absence, he managed to pose with the cup instead.
India managed to win the 2025 Asia Cup trophy after defeating Pakistan thrice in the tournament itself. However, a major controversy erupted when Mohsin Naqvi walked away with the trophy after the Suryakumar Yadav-led team refused to take the trophy from the PCB chief’s hands.

This incident was followed by Varun Chakravarthy, who took to social media to post a hilarious post of himself on the bed, posing next to a mug. He then revealed that he had planned such a celebration with the trophy and so, in his absence, he had posed with a mug.
“I knew we were going to win. The moment we won the second game, I knew that if we met them in the final, we would win. So I had everything planned. I planned to sleep and take a photo with the cup next to me. But after the match, there was nothing next to me. There was only a cup of coffee, so I continued,” he said.
The clarification came during a recent appearance on “Breakfast with Champions.” Chakravarthy added that he was always confident that the Men in Blue would eventually win the title, and without the trophy, they remain champions, because that cannot be changed.
“I knew we would win every game. We are the number one team in the world. The Cup may be taken away from us but we are champions.”
Varun Chakravarthy, who doesn’t have many wickets to his name yet, had some very economical spells in the shortest format of the game during the Asia Cup and later moved up the ranks and reached the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings.
Varun spoke about his nature as a person
Varun Chakravarthy has been a constant in the Indian team since his return to the T20I squad last time. He has been India’s highest wicket-taker in the shortest format since his return to the format. However, he is known as a very calm and collected character on and off the field.
“I have always been an introvert. I am not like Arshdeep or Nayar, who are outspoken and can make jokes. I have a bit of a dark sense of humor. After practice, I go to my room, to avoid cricket I keep writing. I love writing. It brings out what is in me outside and helps me visualize. In the end, I completely forgot that I was a cricketer and that I have a match to play the next day,” he said of his nature as a person.
