A day after making headlines claiming that there were not enough selectors to choose the senior team and support staff for the following season of the Ranji Trophy, the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) on Sunday evening announced the squad for the first two matches of the redball tournament. While Sakibul Gani was selected to lead the 15-member team, young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was chosen as his deputy by selectors Vishnu Shankar, Anant Prakash and Sunil Kumar Singh. However, as per the directions of the Ombudsman, the BCCI and the Supreme Court, the identity of the two selectors, who had been duly nominated for the post from among the three names mentioned above, has been kept confidential as the complete composition of the five-member committee is not available as of now. When asked how BCA managed to select the team when they had only two selectors as per BCCI criteria till Saturday, a BCA official replied. YOU“As we were in constant discussions with BCCI, an interim arrangement was made in accordance with the Board’s directive to select a selector as the next best available from the applications we received following the announcement for the higher tier selectors.“He does not fully meet the selection criteria, but he is the best choice available at the moment. This has been done with the approval of the BCCI as the Ranji Trophy is just a few days away and we need to field a team. Hopefully, we can find the other three selectors, fulfilling the criteria, in the meantime.”
