Yashasvi Jaiswal has firmly established himself in the Indian Test setup, and his latest performance has only strengthened that reputation. In the ongoing second Test against the West Indies, the Mumbai left-hander produced a superb 175 off 258 balls, laced with 22 fours. Yet, despite his growing stature in red-ball cricket, Yashasvi hasn’t been given many opportunities to prove himself in limited-overs formats. So far, he has represented India in 26 Tests, one ODI and 23 T20Is. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes that it is only a matter of time before Jaiswal becomes a regular across all formats. Speaking on her YouTube channel, Chopra said fans may soon stop missing Rohit Sharma once Yashasvi starts opening alongside Shubman Gil in ODIs. “It’s just a question of when, not if. Yashasvi will be playing in all formats very soon. He has already impressed in T20Is and has also scored a century. He has been consistent in the initial loading and was part of the T20 World Cup squad. After that, Shubman Gill progressed through his leadership responsibilities,” explained Chopra. “Gill has joined the Asian Cup squad, but Yashasvi’s turn will come. You can’t keep him waiting for long. We’re talking about it. Abhishek Sharma‘s inclusion in the ODIs, but I think Yashasvi should get his chance first. If he opens with Gill, people might not even miss Rohit,” he added. Rohit Sharma, now 38, recently resigned as India’s ODI captain, sparking speculation about his international future. Having already retired from Tests and T20Is, Rohit is expected to focus solely on 50-over cricket. He and Yashasvi were picked for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19. Chopra further predicted that Jaiswal’s stellar IPL season was still ahead of him. “In T20s, I don’t think we have seen his best yet. He has the talent and the hunger. An IPL season of 750 or even 800 runs is definitely in the cards for him,” he said. The former cricketer also shared an interesting prediction for the future T20 setup, suggesting that after the 2026 T20 World Cup, Yashasvi could emerge as India’s preferred opener, pushing Shubman Gill to No.3. “Whenever Yashasvi gets an opportunity, he makes the most of it. Once he cements his place, you won’t miss anyone. By the next World Cup, he will probably be a regular starter in the XI,” Chopra concluded.
