Thousands of customers lose power as Nor’Easter crosses Massachusetts

Thousands of homes and businesses lost power for the first time nor Easter of the season moved across Massachusetts.
More than 5,000 customers were without power Sunday evening, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
Most of the outages occurred on the coast, with Quincy, Falmouth and Scituate experiencing the highest number of customers without power.
As of 5 a.m. Monday, the total had fallen below 2,000, according to MEMA’s power outage map.
“The forecasted heavy rain and strong winds could cause trees or tree limbs to fall on electrical lines and equipment, causing power outages. We are taking all appropriate measures to ensure our crews are prepared to respond to any damage to the electrical system or outage caused by weather conditions, including increasing staffing levels,” an Eversource spokesperson said in a statement.
Eversource said if you lose power, stay away from any downed wires and make sure pets stay away as well. Any downed wires should be reported to 911. To report a power outage to Eversource, visit their website or call 1-800-592-2000 for Eastern Massachusetts or 877-659-6326 for Western Massachusetts.
