Perfect replacement for blacklist

It’s been a while since NBC The blacklist finished his race, but Apple TV+ seems to have the perfect replacement for the hit crime thriller series.
Created by Jon Bokenkamp and developed by NBC executive John Eisendrath The blacklist had an incredible streak of 10 seasons from 2013 to 2023 before concluding its story. Like most shows, it has had its share of ups and downs, but it has maintained high critical ratings throughout the seasons and boasts an impressive 91% overall score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
From The blacklist ended its run with a complete and natural conclusion, the series is not expected to return in any capacity in the near future. It is, however, interesting to note that Apple TV+ has added a new thriller series to its catalog that seems to have a lot in common with THE Blacklistmaking it the perfect replacement for the hit NBC series.
The Last Frontier is Jon Bokenkamp’s first TV show after The Blacklist
Before making his television debut with The blacklistJon Bokenkamp has been the screenwriter for several films, such as Perfect stranger, Take livesAnd The call. Once he entered the world of television, he devoted several years of his life to The blacklist and its 2017 spin-off, The Blacklist: Redemption.
Since the series ended in 2023, Bokenkamp has not been directly involved in any television projects so far. Apple TV+ The last frontier marks his return to the small screen, allowing him to bring back some of the key elements that made The blacklist critical and commercial success.
How The Last Frontier’s Premise and Tone Compare to The Blacklist
It is interesting to note that while highlighting the similarities between The blacklist And The last frontierBokenkamp called the Apple TV+ series a “relative” to the NBC show. He said that The last frontier does not follow exactly the same case of the week format as The blacklistbut every episode of the series always feels like “like its own film.“
The last frontier also features a major mystery that connects all of its episodes throughout its runtime. However, similar to The blacklistit often tends to focus on a single criminal per episode, giving it a procedural rhythm in the manner of the NBC series.
Compared to The blacklistThe Last Frontier also has a relatively colder, more serious tone due to its Alaskan setting and tense storytelling. However, Apple TV+It is The last frontier it still reminds us The blacklist as it features many morally gray characters, invests heavily in emotional subtext, and also provides the perfect form of escapism for viewers with its tense storytelling.
