India’s Jasprit Bumrah creates history in Delhi Test against West Indies; joins Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni in elite list

World No.1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah cemented his legacy in the history of Indian cricket on Friday (October 10) by achieving a remarkable milestone: he became the first fast bowler in India play at least 50 matches in all three game formats. The second test underway against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi marked Bumrah’s 50th appearance in the longest format, thus sealing his unique place among India’s elite cricketers.

Bumrah is the seventh Indian cricketer to reach the exclusive ’50-50-50′ club, joining a list of esteemed all-format players. Previously, this rare feat was only accomplished by six other pillars: Ms Dona, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran AshwinAnd Kl satisfied. Being the first frontline fast bowler to achieve this, Bumrah highlights his incredible fitness, consistency and indispensability in all conditions and match types since his debut.
The 31-year-old boasts an impressive career tally, having taken 467 wickets across all three formats. His current match tally stands at 50 Tests (222 wickets), 89 ODIs (149 wickets) and 75 T20Is (96 wickets). Kohli is notably the only other Indian player to have played at least 100 matches across all three formats, a testament to the longevity required at the international level.

Record dominance in Test cricket
Bumrah’s 50th Test appearance follows several other unique records, especially when it comes to his performance at home. In the previous first Test, he became the fastest Indian bowler to take 50 Test wickets at home, reaching the milestone with a staggering 1,747 balls, significantly faster than the previous best set by Mohammed Shami (2,267 balls).
In terms of innings taken, Bumrah equaled the record held by Javagal Srinath by reaching 50 home Test wickets in just 24 innings. Moreover, among the 30 bowlers who have taken 50 or more Test wickets in India, Bumrah stands out with the best bowling average of 17.32, highlighting his phenomenal efficiency at home. Beyond the national records, the world’s No. 1 bowler also holds an incredible world record: he is the only bowler in Test history to have taken more than 200 wickets at an average of less than 20, cementing his status as one of the greatest fast bowlers in the modern game.
