Former President Joe Biden attended his grandson in secondary education on Friday, marking his first public appearance since he announced last weekend that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
In photos published on Instagram by the former First Lady Jill Biden and the daughter of the former president, Ashley Biden, the former president and former first lady appeared alongside other family members to celebrate the graduation of the Robert Hunter II high school of Salisbury School of Salisbury, Connecticut.
One of the photos published by Jill Biden included legend: “Prout Nana and Pop! Congratulations Hunter – We are so proud of you.”
In the photos, which Ashley Biden later posted Friday, it appeared that the former president had also been spotted at the airport, although he was not clear in which airport he was photographed.
Joe Biden announced Sunday that he had received a diagnosis of prostate cancer, his personal office saying in a statement: “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new discovery of a prostate nodule after having experienced growing urinary symptoms. Friday, it was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9) bone metastases. “
On Tuesday, his office published a second statement, adding that he had never received a diagnosis of prostate cancer before last week. The statement also said that the former president had not been tested for prostate cancer for more than a decade.
The diagnosis of Biden cancer has rekindled the debate among the democrats on the age and health of the former president, especially since his diagnosis was announced in the context of the release of a new book by Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of Axios who examined the health and cognitive capacities of Biden during the presidential campaign in 2024.
Biden and his family have repeatedly defended the former president against allegations that his cognitive or physical health deteriorated while he was in power.
His granddaughter, Naomi Biden, wrote in an article on X this week that the book was: “A bunch of inspiration without inspiration written by irresponsible journalists by doing self-self to win quickly.”
The book “is based on anonymous anonymous sources pushing a false selfish story that absolutely of all responsibility for our current national nightmare”, she added. “All this at the expense of a man so completely good and honest that it is impossible for these people to understand why or how all this. There are real stories to tell and one day they will be. I suspect that history will reward the truth.”
