Submersible titan: images capture the sound of implosion

The apparent sound issued when the Submersible Titan imploded in June 2023 was revealed in new images published Thursday by the Marine Board of Investigation, the highest level of investigation of the American guard.

Cameras on the mother ship in the sub -Sous -Marin have captured the moment when Wendy Rush – whose Stockton husband founded Oceangate, the company that built the unhappy ship, and was one of the five people who died in its implosion – heard a low cracker similar to a car door.

“What was this time?” she said, turning to people next to her.

At this stage, the submarine had reached a depth of approximately 3,300 meters and was about 90 minutes from its descent to the bottom of the ocean to give passengers on board a view of the Titanic.

This “blow” is considered the moment when the sub-company. However, a few moments later, the crew of the support ship received a message from the submarine saying that it had lost two weights – which may have created the false impression that it still worked normally.

Chris Roman, professor at the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, told CNN that the weight message could have been sent shortly before implosion, but due to a delay was only seen by the support ship.

Each system that transmits data into water has “a buffer or inherent delay linked to the way they synchronize or signal processing,” he said.

“If the message” Weight has dropped “was sent a few seconds before implosion … The computer may not display the message immediately when received. The timing is tight, but possible. It really depends on the system they used. ”

Six seconds after this message, the mother ship lost contact with the submarine, according to the calendar established by the authorities investigating the sentenced shipment.

When the submarine has failed to resurface, a spectacular research and rescue mission took place in remote waters several hundred kilometers south-east of Newfoundland.

The authorities found the wreckage of the Titan on the ground of the North Atlantic Ocean a few days later, several hundred meters from the remains of the Titanic.

Rush, the businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19 -year -old son, Suleman; The businessman Hamish Harding; And the French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet were all killed.

Since implosion, the fate of the submarine has been retained by some as an example of the dangers of pride and greed.

The testimony given during the audiences on the disaster has painted an overwhelming portrait of Oceangate and Rush, which accused passengers of around $ 250,000 per dive despite several concerns raised about the suddenness of the sub-marin.

Two documentaries planned for the release in the coming weeks – one produced by the BBC and the other by Netflix – will investigate the causes behind the disaster.
