BEIJING – An activist sought by the Hong Kong government said that he was denied entry to Singapore this weekend for what he supposes to be political reasons.
Nathan Law, who fled Hong Kong in 2020 and was based in London, said he was detained at Singapore airport on Saturday evening and said his entrance was refused.
He was going to attend an event on camera and only, he said in a statement, without developing.
The law is one of the many Hong Kong activists who have left the city in recent years after the adoption of a national security law which has put others in prison.
He said he had received a Singapore visa to attend the event and had gone in flight from San Francisco. No reason has been given for denial, he said. He climbed a plane for San Francisco Sunday after about 2 p.m. in Singapore.
“I think that the decision to deny my entry was political, although I do not know if the external forces, such as the RPC, are involved, directly or indirectly,” said its declaration, referring to China by the acronym of its official name, the People’s Republic of China.

The law has decreased new comments.
A press release from the Singapore government confirmed that the entry was refused, saying that a visa holder was subject to new vouchers on the border. He noted that the Hong Kong police had issued an arrest warrant under the city’s national security law.
“The entry and presence of the law in the country would not be made in the national interests of Singapore,” said the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Singapore has an extradition agreement with Hong Kong, but it does not seem to cover national security crimes.
Hong Kong police issued law mandates and other self-expilled activists in 2023 and offered $ 1 million awards from Hong Kong ($ 127,600) for information leading to their arrest.
The law is accused of collusion with the foreign parties and of inciting secession for having pretended to have been to sanctions and the separation of Hong Kong of China during meetings with foreign officials and in open letters, petitions, publications on social networks and interviews with the media.
Hong Kong is a Chinese territory with its own laws and regulations, but the Central Government of Beijing repressed in 2020 after a massive anti -government the previous year, imposing a national security law on the city of 7.5 million people.
Law took on importance as a student leader in the pro-democracy of the Revolution of Pro-Democracy in 2014 with Joshua Wong, imprisoned in Hong Kong.
The law was elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2016, but disqualified after raising its tone while tightening allegiance to China during the Oath of Office, which gives the impression of being a question.
