“He essentially invented this public character with an accent that did not exist in any country,” said Shaun.
The actor “He & She”, born in New York, was to join his family’s rail activity – until a Broadway show that changes their life at 14 years on a new path.
As his fame grew, Jack started going around the talk shows and often talked in a theatrical and limited British accent which left his children amazed.
Shaun recalled how he and his brothers often questioned the exaggerated public character of their father.
“Patrick and Ryan and I said to me:” What’s going on with this guy? “,” Said Shaun. “It seemed so false for us. I’m not sure he never really understood who he was.”

Jack died in an apartment fire in 1976 at the age of 49.
Despite their complicated relationship, Shaun – who was only 18 years old at the time – said he had learned to maintain the space for pain and the gifts that his father left.
“He was not a good father-and I don’t say that with disrespect. I just say it with objectivity,” he said. “And yet, I would not have exchanged him for the world. I received so many gifts from him, so much.”

Shaun told people that growing up under the spotlight was not all possible and glamorous.
He thought about his own childhood under the spotlight with his famous parents – the star of “WC Fields and Me” Jack and the winner of Oscar Shirley Jones.
Shaun admitted that the world had seen a perfect Hollywood couple, but reality at home was radically different.
“What they are really is not to know how they are perceived by the public anyway. The public has an idea of whom he is. If you grow in a family of spectacle folk, everything is very present.”

Behind the scenes, Shaun said that his father was widely absent during his years of training.
“I did not have the father who went to my little league games or who took me on a campsite trip or all that. My mother did it,” he said.
However, Shirley, better known for his role in “The Partridge Family” – has often been removed by his own career.

“My mother showed up for many things, but she was also a long time. She made films in the world,” he shared.
“I think that one of the reasons why she took the work” The Partridge Family “is that she wanted to be close to her.”
Jack and Shirley married in 1956 and divorced in 1975.
Shaun said that he had raised himself mainly while his parents were occupied by their career.

“I have a group of friends, children, we were like peanuts,” Shaun told people, when he was referring to emblematic comics. “Parents were not there.”
Shaun found comfort with other Hollywood children who were sailing the same chaotic lifestyle.
“And yet we all had similar history,” he continued. “I mean, Carrie Fisher was two doors, and she was a good boyfriend.”
“We all crossed it with challenges, that’s for sure. We have not only survived, but we prospered, and I think we took care of each other.”
While Shaun became famous in the late 1970s as a teenagewoman with successes like “Da Doo Ron Ron”, he finally moved away from the spotlight.

Shaun also spoke of David, who played in “The Partridge Family” and became a world feeling in the 1970s.
“David had this chip on his shoulder,” he said. “We had similar similar careers, but I watched it like:” Oh, I won the lottery. Now, what will I do? “”
But for David, the fame came with a struggle to be seen beyond his role of escape.
“He was like,” no, no, no, I’m not Keith Parridge. I am Jimi Hendrix! “” Recalls Shaun.

“And I said to myself, ‘guy, you are a character in a television program. It’s a great success. America loves you. There could be worse spells.'”
With hindsight, Shaun said that he still hoped that his brother could find peace in his talent and his success.
“Why not appreciate it and don’t think you will have the talent and the courage to do other things? And he did it, later in life,” he noted.

“She is so positive all the time and so optimistic. She is like a little ball of joy to be there, that it is only a victory for me. So I am not sure who takes care of who.”
