Star Wars confirmed the only thing that Anakin Skywalker hates more than the sand

One of the most famous pieces of dialogue in the “Star Wars” trilogy is Rant Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). “I don’t like sand. It is rude and rough and irritating, and it goes everywhere,” he said, in what is still some of his best attempts to flirt with Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman). Fans generally hate the romantic sub-contort of Anakin and Padmé in “Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clone”, and lines like this are a large part of reason.

More than 20 years later, however, the franchise reminded Anakin’s sand in the animated streaming series “Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past”. In the episode “Part 4”, we see an alternative reality version of Dark Vader (Matt Sloan) try to apologize to an alternative version of Padmé (Catherine Taber). “Padmé, I mean I’m sorry. You know what I hate the most in this galaxy is the sand”, as Vader says. “But there is a more harsh thing than sand: regret. And I have lived with regret for a long time.”

Does this conversation count as a “Star Wars” cannon? In a way, but only in the sense that he will shed some light on what the characters in the films could have believed somewhere in the bottom. Perhaps the Dark Vader of films has thought of similar things, but with Padmé who was no longer in the original trilogy, he had no one to say them too.

Rebuild The Galaxy’s Rallback marks another victory for defenders of the Star Wars prequel trilogy

It is easy to read the reminder “Lego Star Wars” as a joke that makes fun of the prequal, but it is even easier to read it as a celebration of them. Anakin’s sand line may be laughed at the origin of its clumsy delivery and its heated editorial staff, but through many years of memes of prequel, the fans came to the stage. Is this an example of a notoriously cheesy dialogue of the creator of “Star Wars” George Lucas? Or is there more than meeting the eye for the first time?

Some fans have argued that the sand line is a fine metaphor for the ideological battle that the whole franchise is based. Sand is a collective force of thousands of people working together; Like the rebels of the original trilogy, each grain of individual sand is considered to be worthless by Anakin / Vader, but when the grains come together, they can indeed cause great irritation for him. The prequel series focused on “Andor” rebels even embraces this idea, giving fascinating results.

Others have noted that Anakin’s hatred on the sand highlights its controlling nature. His fall on the dark side is defined by his fear of not being able to control the fate of those he loves; He hates chaos, and what could be more chaotic than these boring pieces of sand hanging on your clothes and bags after a beach trip? Like the “family guy” once observed it, you can bring your backpack on the beach once and you will always find sand in the years later. For a man like Anakin, who wants clean and ordered things, a hatred of sand is perfectly logical.

“Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past” is now streaming on Disney +.
